Core Skills & Creative Writing Learning Club: Fantasy Worlds

Great fantasy stories transport readers to places they have never been before.

The Core Skills & Creative Writing Club is designed to help children develop the language, techniques and confidence needed to bring imaginative ideas to life. Each term explores a different writing genre, allowing pupils to experience new styles of writing whilst continually developing their core writing skills.

In the Spring term, children will immerse themselves in the world of fantasy fiction. They will learn how authors create believable fantasy worlds, memorable characters and exciting adventures whilst developing the writing techniques that make stories engaging and immersive.

Throughout the term, pupils strengthen their vocabulary, improve sentence construction, develop narrative structure and learn how to create convincing worlds, characters and plots. Lessons combine explicit teaching, discussion, creative challenges and independent writing opportunities, helping children develop both technical accuracy and creative confidence.

By the end of the term, pupils will have produced their own polished fantasy story and developed a deeper understanding of the techniques used by successful fantasy authors.

Lessons combine creative exploration, structured skill development and expert teacher guidance, ensuring children strengthen both their technical writing skills and their enjoyment of writing.

• Suitable for pupils aged 8–11 (Years 4–6)

• Online (live lessons via Zoom)

• Maximum of 8 pupils per class

Programme Structure

• Thursdays, 5.30 pm–6.45 pm

• 75-minute writing workshops

• 10 lessons per term

• Led by a fully qualified and highly experienced teacher

• New pupils are welcome at the start of any term

• Half-term: 15 February – 19 February 2027

Fees

• £475 per term

• £50 deposit to reserve your child's place (deducted from the programme fee)

• Remaining balance invoiced before the programme begins

• All learning materials and resources included
